About the Author

Alternative artist and musician, Ian Dunlop formed his first band the Refugees in the late 1950s in the Cape Cod area. The band was restricted to very local gigs as they were all too young to drive. By the early 60s the Refugees graduated from being a garage band to playing the college circuit in New England and opened up for some of the classic acts of the time; Roy Orbison, the Shirelles, the Crystals.etc. In 1965, in Cambridge, Ma; Ian teamed-up with Gram Parsons to write and record with the group that became the International Submarine Band. The ISB relocated to NY to record and perform before moving to LA in 1967. The ISB is now attributed to be the first Alt. Country band. In the latter part of 1967 Ian, Barry Tashian and other members of their former bands formed the hard working, short-lived, Flying Burrito Brothers . Ian remained a close friend of Gram Parsons until the singers death. In England, in 1980, Ian formed Ian & the Muscletones to record the LP Human Sacrifice a mix of American, roots music and English New Wave. The band featured Ian s songs and sax-man Terrance Clements from the Janis Joplin band. Ian & Muscletones played in the UK 81- 83 and released a highly acclaimed single I Like Ike . During 84- 85 Ian worked in London with Russell Murch in his eccentric band the Avant Gardenerz ( 2 LPs) Between 87- 91 Ian put together the Babble-on Babies performing and recording a mix of Country/Cajun/Comedy music (un-released) 1991 Ian worked with Jon Corneal ( ex ISB, Poco, Flying Burrito Bros.) writing and recording in Fla & Nashville. After a long silence, apart from playing numerous sax or bass gigs in the west of England, Ian began song writing, recording and performing again. In 2008 Ian did some solo appearances in the UK, worked on film sound tracks with the art-film maker, Andrew Lanyon and during the latter part of the year performed at clubs and festivals in New York, Georgia and Florida. Audiences everywhere applauded Ian s on-stage improv show, his fables and adlib links between his Americana-style songs. Ian also exhibited his music-themed, lurid art work at galleries and festivals where he performed During the 08 tour he recorded in New York, Florida and Georgia with some of the like-minded musicians he met and will be recording in Nashville and Georgia in early 2009. He still gigs and is heading back to the US for an fall tour in September 2010. Breakfast in Nudie Suits is his first book.
